Art in Penallt Raise Funds for Social Circles at Bridges Centre

We’re sure that you have heard about the annual event celebrating local artists, Art in Penallt, but did you know that they have raised a staggering £14,100 over the last 11 years, all going to charitable causes in the local area or further afield in Wales. That total has been raised further still after another successful event in August 2022 and now stands at a little over £20,000!

The annual art show has most recently been held at Humble by Nature on the edge of Penallt Village, and this year attracted over 1300 visitors across the bank holiday weekend. Not only are visitors able to view and purchase art they can also take part in workshops or view demonstrations.

The event has grown steadily to become recognized locally as the place to view the work of new artists, catch up with old favorites, such as patrons Walter Keeler and Richard Wills, all the while safe in the knowledge that just by attending the show individuals are helping raise vital funds for local charities.

The most inspiring aspect of Art in Penallt has to be the effort and dedication of the committee and volunteers who run the venture as a ‘not for profit’ enterprise. Profits from the event are distributed to local charities and this year we are very proud to have been chosen alongside Monmouth Food Bank and St Johns Ambulance to receive a donation of a whopping £3,000!

That sum has gone to support the work of Social Circles here at Bridges, our bi weekly get together for vulnerable, lonely or isolated seniors in the community. Project Lead Andrea Charles told us: “Social Circles members were overwhelmed to be handed a cheque for £3000 to spend on equipment and resources for their group.  We are incredibly grateful that our group has been chosen to receive such a generous donation”.   One of the services regular users, Mrs. R added “Coming to group is my only day out every week, this has made my day!”

Everybody involved with Social Circles and all the staff here at Bridges would like to reiterate our heartfelt thank you to the team at Art in Penallt.
