This free to access support service is aimed at giving guidance and support to any parent or carer in Monmouthshire who cares for a child who is, or may be on the autism spectrum. Your child does not need to have a formal diagnosis to access the project – if you are concerned that your child may have an autism spectrum disorder you can refer yourself for advice and support.

Who can access the Autism Family Support for Monmouthshire?
Any parent or carer in Monmouthshire who cares for a child or Adult who is or may be on the autism spectrum.
Your child does not need to have a formal diagnosis to access the project – if you are concerned that your child may have an autism spectrum disorder you can refer yourself for advice and support.
Once a referral has been received, the Family Support Coordinator will arrange a Teams or Telephone meeting with you. This will normally last about an hour:
- find out more about your child/young person
- explore how autism is affecting the particular individual involved
Following the initial visit, the Autism Family Support Coordinator will offer follow-up appointment as appropriate and invite parents to support groups.
What the Service offers:
- giving information about Autism
- Suggesting strategies to manage particular behaviours
- Signposting and referring to relevant services
- Peer to Peer support
- provide information regarding the diagnostic services
- helping families to liaise with schools e.g. attend meeting with families, give information to schools
- provide information regarding the DLA process
What we will NOT be doing
Diagnostic assessment for Autism
Provide respite for Carers/or providing care packages for individuals with Autism
Conduct long-term therapy or inventions for child/adult

Parent Drop In support Group
A very informal and informative drop-in service to discuss anything Autism related. Come and have a tea/coffee and chat.
1st Monday of every month at TogetherWorks, Caldicot
9.30am – 11.30am
and also –
1st Tuesday of every month at Bridges Centre, Monmouth
9.30-11.30am
