🛍️ The Shop is Back — and What a Day!
Monday 16th Feb was a milestone moment as the Bridges Community Shop reopened its doors.
The Mayor, Jackie Atkin, officially cut the ribbon, and from that point on the shop was buzzing. We were overwhelmed by the volume and quality of donations received ahead of reopening — and thrilled to enjoy a bumper first day of sales.
And then, just when we thought it couldn’t get better…
A rousing burst of sea shanty singing outside the shop formed quite the spectacle and certainly caught the attention of passers-by. Led with gusto by Tony O’Hare, our Caretaker at Large, the performance drew smiles, curiosity and a steady stream of visitors keen to see what all the excitement was about.

👷 Progress in Motion
Tuesday brought another important step forward as contractors were onsite at Bridges Centre.
While no heavy lifting took place just yet, there were boots on the ground and plans actively progressing. It’s a visible sign that restoration work is moving ahead.
Andrea Charles, Facilities Manager, commented:
“Seeing contractors on site is incredibly encouraging. It shows that we’re moving from recovery into rebuilding. We’re taking a careful and sustainable approach, but momentum is building — and that’s exciting.”
Step by step, we’re heading in the right direction.
