Monmouth Male Voice Choir raises £1,000 for Bridges

A memorable evening of music featuring more than 100 voices has raised £1,000 for Bridges Centre and its continuing recovery following the devastating flooding in Monmouth.

Monmouth Male Voice Choir was joined by friends from Worcester Male Voice Choir for a special St David’s Day concert at St Mary’s Priory Church on Saturday 28th February.

The large audience enjoyed a celebration of Welsh music, including favourites such as Yma O Hyd, Gwinllan, Llanfair, Gwahoddiad and Calon Lân. The two choirs also joined together for a rousing performance of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau to close the concert.

The evening brought together more than 100 choristers and marked a return visit by Worcester Male Voice Choir, following Monmouth’s appearance at College Hall in Worcester last year.

A formal cheque presentation involving representatives of the choir and Steve Popisil, Vice Chair of Trustees at Bridges, took place on July 9th at choir rehearsals.

Steve Popisil, Vice Chair of Trustees at Bridges, said:

“We are enormously grateful to Monmouth Male Voice Choir, Worcester Male Voice Choir and everyone who supported this wonderful concert.

“The flooding caused significant damage to our home at Drybridge House, but the generosity shown by local organisations and the wider community continues to give us encouragement and practical support as we work towards reopening.

“This £1,000 donation will make a genuine difference, and we look forward to thanking members of the choir properly when we meet for the cheque presentation.”

The concert was sponsored by Wye Valley Brewery, who also kindly supported the evening.
